What is Colocating and How Does it Work?

August 12, 2020 by Monnig Industries

Colocating is an excellent concept that provides advantages for businesses and their shared customers. It’s not a new concept, but one that is growing because of the efficiencies it creates. For example, we’ve all seen a fast food restaurant located inside a Wal-mart or a gas station, or a coffee shop inside a grocery store. Or we may have experienced the convenience of working with a mortgage loan officer that has a desk inside a real estate firm.

For businesses that traditionally work together or that commonly have mutual customers, the idea of shared office space can provide key strategic advantages: i.e. better customer service, quicker turnaround time, and even cost savings. In manufacturing, it benefits both the consumer and the partner manufacturer. Colocating provides a more seamless connection between the customer and supplier, ensuring that the process goes smoothly. Let’s take a deeper look into how it works in manufacturing.

How Does Colocating Work in the Galvanized Steel Industry?

In our world, when a manufacturer is in regular need of galvanizing, we work to put a plant near that location. The benefits of doing so far outweigh the cost of setting up production in a new location. Knowing that turnaround time is crucial, we’ve found that it makes good business sense to take our services to them. We’re not only able to be more responsive to what that manufacturer needs, but we can get the work done more quickly and more efficiently…simply because of geographic proximity. We’re able to wring logistic costs out of the supply chain, and that makes for happier customers all the way around. For us, that business model has led to the growth of the company, and as demand for our services increases, that will continue.

Our Stories

Our goal is to be proactively responsive to the needs of our customers. When we can partner with them to better help their customers by bringing our services to them, everybody wins. All of our existing locations have real estate available for existing or potential new customers to colocate with us, please visit our site or give us a call if you are interested! Here are some examples of where we’ve done that successfully:

Big Bend Galvanizing and MacLean Power Systems:

The first colocation we did was when MacLean Power Systems had a need for a galvanizing plant in Trenton, Tennessee. This led to the creation of Big Bend Galvanizing.

MacLean Power Systems is a manufacturing company that supplies products for these areas:

  • Electric Utility
  • Civil Construction
  • Communication Markets

They produce a great deal of products and have a strong need for galvanizing!

Crossroads Galvanizing and Wabash National

In 2018, Crossroads Galvanizing joined the other Monnig plants. Wabash National had a need for a plant to galvanize their products, thus Crossroads was born in Lafayette, Indiana.

Wabash National are industry leaders from manufacturing to engineering real-world solutions. Here are some of the areas of their expertise:

  • Transportation
  • Logistics
  • Distribution
